Vetiver Grass (Chrysopogon zizanoides L.): A Hyper-Accumulator Crop for Bioremediation of Unconventional Water

The increase of the global population and requirement food production agricultural development, combined with a lack water resources, have led to human attention being drawn unconventional sources, including saline wastewater. Most treatment methods are not cost-effective; however, researchers become interested in phytoremediation method due its cost-efficient eco-friendly removal many pollutants recent years. Research showed that unique characteristics, vetiver grass can be useful phytoremediation. In current review, research on vetiver-based water, especially wastewater, was reviewed. vetiver-reduced contaminants wastewater related interactions between (1) root-released oxygen into rhizosphere; (2) root-based uptake nutrients from wastewater; (3) existence an appropriate surface area for attached microbial growth; as well (4) root-exuded organic carbon.
